Code & rate
Pick an item from the list to see its code, rate and the tax on an amount.
Rates after the GST Council's rationalisation effective 22 September 2025, for the most common headings. Classification depends on the exact product, packaging and sale value; check the CBIC rate schedule or a ruling for anything unusual. Codes shown are at 4-digit heading level; invoices need 4, 6 or 8 digits depending on turnover.
How it works
Search
Type the product, service or a code fragment. Goods carry HSN (chapter/heading), services carry SAC starting with 99.
Rate
The slab after GST 2.0: nil, 5%, 18%, or 40% for de-merit goods and services, with gold at 3% and diamonds at 0.25%.
Compute
Enter a taxable value to see the tax and the intra-state CGST/SGST split.
How many HSN digits you must print
From 1 April 2021, suppliers with aggregate turnover above ₹5 crore must print 6-digit HSN on every invoice; those up to ₹5 crore must print 4 digits on B2B invoices (optional on B2C). Exports and imports use 8 digits. The HSN summary in GSTR-1 (table 12) follows the same rule, and since 2024 the portal validates codes against its master, so a wrong digit blocks the return.
GST 2.0 in one line
The 12% and 28% slabs were folded into 5% and 18% from 22 September 2025; sin and luxury goods moved to 40%.
Sale value matters
Apparel and footwear are 5% up to ₹2,500 a piece and 18% above; hotel rooms flip at ₹7,500 a night.
With or without ITC
Restaurants, hotels under ₹7,500, cabs and salons are 5% on the condition that no input credit is claimed.
Reverse charge
GTA, legal services and residential rent to a registered person are paid by the recipient under RCM.
