How it works
Who paid whom
Your business as the receiver, the payer's details, the mode of payment and the invoice it settles if any.
Lines
One line per invoice or purpose with the amount. Add GST only if this is an advance on a taxable supply.
Preview, then print or save as PDF; the receipt number and the amount in words make it a usable record.
When a receipt voucher is required under GST
A receipt voucher is the document Section 31(3)(d) requires when a registered supplier receives an advance for a supply before issuing the tax invoice. For goods, no GST is payable on the advance (Notification 66/2017) so the voucher simply records the money; for services, GST is payable at the time the advance is received and is shown on the voucher, then adjusted in the invoice. For ordinary payments against an existing invoice, the same document works as a plain payment receipt.
Rule 50 particulars
Supplier name, address, GSTIN; a serial number; date; payer details; description; amount; tax rate and amount if applicable; place of supply; and signature.
Refund voucher
If the supply is cancelled after an advance, issue a refund voucher under Section 31(3)(e) when returning the money.
Cash limits
Receipts of ₹2 lakh or more in cash from one person in a day are barred by Section 269ST; note the mode of payment.
Cheque realisation
A receipt for a cheque is conditional on realisation; the standard line on the voucher covers it.
