Indicative only. Sections 207, 208, 211, 234B and 234C. Enter tax net of rebate and including cess; this tool does not compute the tax itself (use the income tax calculator for that). Capital-gains exclusions under 234C are not applied.

How it works

Net liability

Your estimated tax for the year less TDS and TCS. Advance tax applies only if this is ₹10,000 or more.

Four instalments

15%, 45%, 75% and 100% cumulative by 15 June, September, December and March. Presumptive taxpayers pay 100% by 15 March.

Two interests

234C for each instalment paid short, at 1% a month. 234B if less than 90% is paid by 31 March, from 1 April until you settle.

Know the instalment before the date, and the interest after it

Advance tax catches people whose TDS does not cover their full liability: capital gains, interest, rent, freelance income, or a second job. The portal charges 234B and 234C silently at return time, often months after the money could have been paid without interest. Enter your estimate and what you have paid so far; the calculator shows each instalment's requirement, the shortfall, the 234C tolerance for June and September, and the 234B exposure if you settle after 31 March.

Cumulative schedule

Each instalment is a running total, so an overpayment in June reduces what is due in September.

12% and 36% tolerance

No 234C for June if 12% is paid, or for September if 36% is paid, even though the targets are 15% and 45%.

234B month counting

Any part of a month counts as a full month from 1 April of the assessment year to the payment date.

Presumptive mode

44AD and 44ADA taxpayers get the single 15 March instalment and one month of 234C on any shortfall.
